Solving a problem with trees connected to AncestryDNA

 I had an AncestryDNA test several months ago. Then I discovered a problem. Like many people, I had separate trees for my father's and my mother's biological families. I was surprised to find that there was no way to connect BOTH to my DNA results.

When I connected Dad's tree, AncestryDNA would detect relationships in his tree, but not in Mom's. And when I connected Mom's tree I suddenly lost my relationships to Dad's relatives.

I could find no way to connect both at the same time.

What about connecting them by merging records? Merging duplicate records within a single trees is easy, but there seems to be no way to merge records that are on two different trees, even if I own both trees.

Fortunately I still have my own computer database, so I exported a new tree that included both sides of the family. So now I have three family trees on Ancestry, two that have photos and sources and one that does not. I connected the new database to my AncestryDNA account, and it appears to be working.

This is not ideal, but it seems to be a workable solution for me. And it may work for you, if you find yourself in the same situation.
