The marriage of my great uncle Richard James Watson
The local history of Millet, Alberta describes Dad's "Uncle Dick" as a bachelor.
Dad told me that Dick had married a Scottish nurse but the marriage apparently failed.
I recently received an email from someone through Wikitree.com saying that Dick married Mary Haddow in 1912. I was able to find marriage indexes to confirm that he married Mary Clark Haddow in Calgary on August 23, 1912. I tried searching for her in Scotland without success. I found her death in Calgary in 1918, but nothing more.
I decided to order the marriage record from Provincial Archives of Alberta, in the hope that it would give her birth place and the names of her parents. After all, Uncle Dick was someone I had met a few times, and Dad had inherited his family photos. And then I inherited them from Dad. We had a connection. And I wanted to know more about his mysterious wife.
The marriage record arrived today by email. Mary Clark Haddow was 36 years old at the time of her marriage. She was born in Bothkennar, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Her father was Archibald Haddow and her mother was Jennie Clark. Yippie!! With that information, I was able to connect her to her parents in the FamilySearch Family Tree.
