I am a retired online school teacher. I love family history. From 2007-2020, I spent much of my time providing part-time support for the world's largest free family history site https://familysearch.org This is very rewarding. I have helped others with the Family Tree and related FamilySearch products.
In 2010-2018 I served in the Edmonton_Alberta_Riverbend_Family_History_Centre..I have a FHC blog at Bill's Family History Center Blog Since 2020 I have been a family history consultant for Edmonton Alberta North Stake. Preserving family videos

My favorite family history storage site does not allow videos to be uploaded, So what do I do???

As a result of many hours of quality time spent viewing rootstech.org, I have felt a need to share some more family history with my family. I was able to make some videos by sharing my screen and recording it in Zoom. This worked well for maps and still photos about my ancestors movements in Ireland before immigrating to Canada.

For my birthday in 2010, my family gave me a Canon A2000 IS camera, which allowed me to record videos with sound. I wanted to share some of these old video clips with my family. Some could be posted on Youtube.com for easy access. (e.g. a quick walk-thru of an empty unidentified house that is loaded with family memories)

Others showed young grandchildren, and I did not feel comfortable putting them on a public site. These I uploaded to my www.box.com account and shared a private link. But one fun video showed about 5 minutes of an autumn leaf war ten years ago. I found it hilarious watching brothers and sisters and little cousins throwing harmless handfuls of fallen leaves at each other. The resulting file was about 900MB, which exceeds the maximum file size allowed by box, com.  I tried uploading it to google drive unsuccessfully. I was considering using a private link in Youtube, but a question came to mind? Could I record viewing it in Zoom? Yeah! The result was a 142MB file, which is small enough to upload to box.com The video quality is sufficient for my purposes.

Happy Easter!

Usually we celebrate the season of forgiveness and renewal by a big family dinner, but because of covid19 restrictions, we will again be celebrating with just our own household. But that's okay.

Wherever you are, may you experience faith, hope and love this Easter.
