I am a retired online school teacher. During July 2007 - January 2010, and September 2011 - March 2014, I provided part-time support for https://familysearch.org This is very rewarding. I have helped many with the free Personal Ancestral File 5 (PAF5) software. I continue to help others with the Family Tree and related FamilySearch products.
Since April 2010, I was an assistant director of Edmonton Riverbend Family History Centre. In recent months I was director of this FHC. I have a FHC blog at Bill's Family History Center Blog For information the Latter-day Saints and family history click http://mormon.org/

Genealogy in Time Newsletter For the past few weeks I have been getting a wonderful newsletter from Genealogy in Time. It is often the first information I receive about new online resources. http://www.genealogyintime.com/genealogy_news.html Genealogy in Guyana On Thursday, a patron came to the FHC asking for help with his family history in Guyana. Everything I tried over the following two hours was basically fruitless. So yesterday I spent most of the day scouring the internet looking for resources on this small South American nation. These were the best leads I found. The Guyana / British Guiana Genealogical Society http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyggbs/index.htm Be sure to read: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyggbs/Research.htm The Guyana / British Guiana Genealogical Society http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyggbs/index.htm Guyana/British Guiana Genealogy Society Forum http://guyanagen.proboards.com/index.cgi Guyana Genealogical and Biographical Society http://guygenbiosociety.blogspot.com/This blog contains transcribed newspaper anouncements of birth, marriage, and death, as well as some biographies and photos. Chinese in Guyana: their roots http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~guycigtr/ British Guiana Colonists http://www.vc.id.au/tb/ is an index to colonists. Due to limited staff, Family History Centers are unable to respond to mail inquiries. But if you live in the area, they might be able to help you. Supplemental: An excellent article on the county and its history can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guyana Parliament of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana http://www.parliament.gov.gy/ University of Guyana (no family history listed) http://uog.edu.gy/search/node Guyana Government Information Agency http://www.gina.gov.gy/ (passports, birth certificates) http://www.gina.gov.gy/govservicesbenefits.html 2002 census of Guyana, but seems to give no access to anything other than basic statistics, and no access to earlier censuses. http://www.statisticsguyana.gov.gy/census.html Guyana News and Information http://www.guyana.org/ Discussion on indentured East Indians in Guyana (projected database of East Indian Indentured Servants) http://www.guyana.org/noncgi/forum/Archives/Archive-000002/HTML/20020321-1-004321-3.html Forum with family history interests http://www.guyana.org/cgi-bin/Directory/guydir.cgi?act=N I have also created an article for the FamilySearch wiki, http://wiki.familySearch.org containing these links.
